Funding reform Print E-mail

The global economic recession has impacted all levels of government, business and the community. However, the Queensland Government committed $496.9 million to councils in 2009-10 to ensure important community infrastructure projects continue as planned. This expenditure will result in 2385 jobs.

From July 2011, a funding program called the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program will commence providing smaller councils with 40% of the approved project costs. The program will provide $45 million each year and funding will be used to support the continuation of capital work on essential projects like sewage treatment plant upgrades, water pipelines and erosion management; all of which contribute to significant long-term community and environmental benefits.

Information and fact sheets on the reform of local government spending are available below.
