The future development of the Gold Coast Hospital site Print E-mail

In early 2013, health services currently based at Gold Coast Hospital in Southport will be moved to the newly constructed Gold Coast University Hospital. The new hospital is located in close proximity to the current site, only four kilometres away, and will become one of the largest hospitals in the southern hemisphere.

The new facilities at Gold Coast University Hospital and the newly expanded Robina Hospital have been designed with the capability to meet the health care needs of the Gold Coast community until approximately 2020, based on population growth and service demand projections.

An evaluation by Queensland Health of the current Gold Coast Hospital facilities located at Southport has identified it is unsuitable for refurbishment to continue as a hospital facility in its current form, due to the outdated nature of the complex.

The current health services between High and Little High streets will be retained, including the Griffith University Health Building.

Options for the future development of the site are being considered in consultation with both the site's Future Directions Steering Committee and newly formed Community Reference Group.

Feedback is also being requested and considered from the general community during a series of 'have your say' opportunities.
