Relationship to the South East Queensland Regional Plan
Kinross Road is recognised in the South East Queensland Regional Plan 2009 - 2031 as a local development area for residential growth in the Redland City Council local government area.
Kinross Road has capacity for a residential community in combination with additional employment opportunities, local retail and commercial functions and community services.
Previous planning
In 2005, Kinross Road was identified by the Redland City Council as potentially suitable for urban development. Accordingly, the Redlands Planning Scheme included the area as part of the Emerging Urban Community Zone.
Kinross Road was included in the urban footprint under the previous South East Queensland regional plan. Kinross Road was gazetted as a major development area on 16 June 2006 in order to progress planning for the area.
In 2007, the major development area provisions were rescinded as a result of the introduction of the Urban Land Development Authority Act 2007. Consequently an amendment was made to the Integrated Planning Act 1997 that recognised all existing major development areas as identified master planned areas.
On 15 December 2009 the major development area was rescinded. The current Kinross Road Master Planned Area covers the same general area as the former major development area, however the boundaries were extended to integrate new development with existing development and include open space areas and protect koala habitat in a holistic way.
