Future directions steering committee
The Queensland Government has established a future directions steering committee, made up of local business representatives and stakeholders. The committee consists of representatives from:
- Department of Local Government and Planning
- Queensland Health
- Gold Coast City Council
- Southport Chamber of Commerce
- Gold Coast University Hospital Community Stakeholder Advisory Group.
The committee has been tasked with leading discussion on the best possible future development of the site and meets regularly to discuss project progress. The committee has also been involved in two local and state government stakeholder workshops to date, which have been targeted at generating ideas, highlighting issues and determining feasible opportunities for the site.
Community Reference Group
The Community Reference Group (CRG) includes representatives from the Southport and Gold Coast community who identify with the Southport area as business owners, residents and/or hospital employees.
Successful nominees for the group were selected based on differing demographics and knowledge of the area, in an effort to develop a wide cross section of people and ideas. The CRG includes people who have been living in Southport and the Gold Coast for 6 years or more and bring with them extensive local knowledge.
The CRG met in early December 2011 and will continue to meet over the life of the project to discuss project progress and ensure the local community has a voice in the process and is kept-up-date.
