Once a complaint is received, it is assessed by the chief executive officer (CEO) of the local government who decides the appropriate action to take. If the CEO determines that the complaint represents inappropriate conduct, the matter will be referred to the mayor. If the complaint relates to the mayor or the deputy mayor, the complaint will be referred to the department.
If the CEO determines that the complaint is misconduct, the matter will be referred to the director general of our department who will form either a Regional Conduct Review Panel, or in cases of serious misconduct, refer it to the Local Government Remuneration and Discipline Tribunal for determination.
