The Local Government Act 2009 provides for the establishment of Regional Conduct Review Panels, which are responsible for hearing and deciding complaints of misconduct against local government councillors.
The director general of our department has appointed 35 members across five panels, which cover the South East Region, Southern Region, Central Region, Northern Region and Far Northern Region. View a map of the department's regional boundaries ( 731 KB).
The Regional Conduct Review Panels came into operation on 1 July 2010.
Panel members must be of high standing in the community with extensive knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following areas: local government, community affairs, investigations, law, public administration, public sector ethics and public finance.

Key criteria
- knowledge of the legislative, policy and procedural framework the relevant local government operates within
- capacity to apply the principles of procedural fairness in time limited decision making process
- a high level of discretion and confidentiality
- excellent communication skills and ability to communicate cross culturally
- capacity to make fair decisions quickly.
Conditions of appointment
Panel members are appointed to the pool of members from 1 July 2010 for a period of up to four years and may be considered for re-appointment.
The director general of the department will call upon a selection of panel members to undertake a review as required. Travel may be required.
