Draft Wide Bay Burnett State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2010 ( 90 KB) were released and took effect on 1 October 2010 and will assist in the implementation of the draft Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan. The draft regulatory provisions were open for public consultation until 24 December 2010 and will be finalialised by mid-2011.

The draft is primarily designed to protect the region's environmental, agricultural and landscape values from inappropriate development and promote future urban development being located within existing towns. This is achieved by:

• preventing urban sprawl and limiting subdivision outside the Urban Footprint
• minimising fragmentation of the landscape by setting a minimum lot size for subdivision
• limiting rural residential development
• managing urban activities in rural living areas, and regional landscape and rural production areas.

Regulatory maps have been prepared for the region to support the draft State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2010.

Background

The draft State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2010 replaces the draft Wide Bay Burnett State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2009, which were released on 18 December 2009. Public consultation closed on 31 March 2010 and 170 submissions were received. In light of the launch of the statutory draft Wide Bay Burnett Regional Plan, it was determined by The Honourable Andrew Fraser MP, Treasurer and Regional Planning Minister for Wide Bay Burnett not to proceed with the 2009 provisions. Instead, the submissions received have been used to inform the draft State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2010.
