Draft State Planning Regulatory Provisions

The Draft Wide Bay Burnett State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2009 ( 263 KB) and maps were introduced on 18 December 2009 to regulate land use while the statutory regional plan is developed.

The provisions assist the planning of sustainable, dynamic communities by:

formally establishing land use categories, such as an Urban Footprint to limit urban sprawl and manage urban activities outside the Urban Footprint
establishing Regional Landscape and Rural Production areas to protect agricultural production areas and areas of environmental significance
managing residential-style development in rural areas by establishing a Rural Living Area.

The provisions are an interim measure until the draft statutory plan is released for consultation in 2010. Until then they will provide certainty to local councils, developers and landowners about land use and development and help manage growth and development.

The provisions took immediate effect on 18 December 2009 and will remain in place until the statutory regional plan is released.

Submissions on the Draft Wide Bay Burnett State Planning Regulatory Provisions 2009 closed Wednesday 31 March 2010.

A new Minister and a designated region

The announcement of the preparation of a statutory regional plan for the region and release of the Draft Wide Bay Burnett State Regulatory Planning Provisions 2009 required the identification and designation of the region under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009. The designated region comprises the following local government areas:

Bundaberg
Cherbourg
Fraser Coast
Gympie
North Burnett
South Burnett.

The Honourable Andrew Fraser MP, Treasurer and Minister for Employment and Economic Development, has been appointed to the role of regional planning Minister for the Wide Bay Burnett region due to the declaration of a conflict of interest by the Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP.
