The State Planning Instruments Program provides a mechanism for articulating planning and development related issues of state interests through state planning instruments (SPIs). Under the Sustainable Planning Act 2009, there are four types of state planning instruments:
Clear statements of the government's position on state interests assist local government, the community and the development industry by providing more certainty and accountability for planning decisions. Annual publication of a forward program of proposed SPIs is a key deliverable in streamlining the planning system and provides a systematic approach for ensuring the state's interests are appropriately represented in land-use planning and development. The State Planning Instruments Program also provides for an annual review of government priorities and progress, and assists stakeholders by providing advanced notice of the government's position on state interests. |
